And on another note, my darling life-partner Jamie and I have arrived home safely from our adventure vacation spent with my older sister, her partner, and 4 of their Aussie friends cruising through the Bocas del Toro islands: a province of Panama comprising an island chain off the Caribbean coast, plus a section of nearby mainland with biodiverse rainforest.
I am unbelievably grateful for the privilege of being able to do this kind of adventure travel, and for the privilege of the whole trip being topped off with a passage through the Panama canal. Soooooo much gratitude to my older sister and her partner for their generosity and kindness in sharing their wealth, knowledge, and experience with these kinds of adventure vacations. My mind still boggles as I write to integrate our experience after returning home on Saturday.
Yesterday I texted with one of our neighboring Thai Forest Buddhist monk friends who, on Friday, will return from a stint in Northern India where he has been establishing a Buddhist monastery. We have just received a travel pack for him that he requested from the outdoor gear company Cotopaxi. I learned the origin of the company’s name: “Cotopaxi is an active stratovolcano in the Andes Mountains, located in Latacunga city of Cotopaxi Province, about 50 km south of Quito, and 31 km northeast of the city of Latacunga, Ecuador. It is the second highest summit in Ecuador, reaching a height of 5,897 m.”
It just so happens that this is not far from where we were in the region of Panama.
I applaud Cotopaxi’s mission: “Adventure inspires us to see the world and make it better. That’s why we build gear that fuels both outdoor experiences and global change. To achieve our mission, we dedicate at least 1% of our revenue to nonprofits that help communities experiencing poverty.”
I get the sense that Cotopaxi have a similar ethos to the outdoor gear company Patagonia, which I wrote about here.
May more and more people create these kinds of companies that serve the preservation of our exquisitely beautiful planet, aka Mother Earth. ✨🌟💖🙏🕊️
