Captiva Island
Dearest Reader,
I’ve always been a bit scared of the idea of going to a psychic medium. But when two close friends each had a reading, and each of them told me that they received vitally helpful information, it piqued my curiosity.
Plus I simply adore this 2018 video—with 1.1 million views—that shows the author and psychic medium Laura Lynne Jackson in conversation with the Jewish, Buddhist psychiatrist Dr. Mark Epstein at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City.
My favorite part of their conversation is when Dr. Epstein asks Laura Lynn about “Art and music and creative work of all kinds,” and she tells him what she’s learned from “the other side”:
“Every artist works with this beautiful team of light and this download from the other side.”
i.e. when any artist creates a work of art (and this of course includes painters, sculptors, photographers, musicians, writers, etc.) they’re channeling light from the other side.
“And then when we experience art, whether we’re looking at a painting, or we’re listening to a song … we connect with this grand grid of light—to the creator of it, this artist here, to the team of light on the other side, and to everybody else who has viewed it and enjoyed it.”
“When we bring art into our energy it’s like turning the brightness up on our connections to each other, to the universe.”
I love this idea of turning up the brightness on our connections. I get a visual of beams of light connecting all sentient beings to each other and to the earth.
Last week, I listened to another conversation—this time between Laura Lynne Jackson and Dr. Jeff Tarrant, a psychologist and board-certified neurofeedback specialist. Dr. Tarrant’s research investigates what is going on in the brain during a medium or psychic reading. He has measured the brainwaves of many different psychic mediums, including Laura Lynne Jackson’s. (Measurement appeals to my own Inner Patriarch 😉 the one who wants things to be quantifiable in the material/ physical realm in which we are spiritual beings having a human experience🥰)
Dr. Tarrant’s biggest finding is that psychic or mediumship work tends to mostly utilize the right brain. The neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor’s 2006 book, My Stroke of Insight, also sheds light on the difference between the right and left sides of the brain. But essentially Dr. Tarrant is saying that when measuring the brains of psychic mediums at work, the right side of their brain changes much more dramatically than the left.
He also describes how we use the left brain for language processing, and how it deals with structure, analysis, judgement, and all of these things that language deals with. He says that what’s important, is to be able to shut down this left side of the brain at least temporarily. If you’re stuck in this logic mode of the left brain, it becomes difficult to tap into the right brain.
“It’s important to learn how to quiet your left brain, so that you can hear more subtle information. Tap into things on a more subtle level.”

Dr. Tarrant is also measuring brainwaves of different frequencies.
Brainwaves are simply electricity in your brain that exists in a variety of speeds.
And a frequency is the number of times a wave repeats itself within a second.
Think of the frequency in an electric outlet in your house of 60 hertz, so the speed of electricity is 60 cycles per second.
So, essentially, Dr. Tarrant is measuring the SPEED of brainwaves. But he says that it’s important to understand that your brain has all of the brainwaves going all of the time. What he’s measuring is the frequency of each brainwave in different parts of the brain at different times.
He gave a brief description of the different kinds of brainwaves, in order of fastest to slowest:
GAMMA are the fastest and highest brainwaves and are associated with activation and higher states of consciousness, with FLOW states/being in the zone, an effortless high-level processing. For example you see a lot of Gamma activity with Tibetan monks when they’re doing a compassion meditation; and in musicians and other artists you see Gamma bursts. Gamma is also involved in lucid dreaming—where there is a conscious awareness in the dream state. He says, “Lucid dreaming can be trained and taught so that you can move, navigate and engage in the dream state. Dreaming and meditation we think of as a slow brain wave but when there’s high level activity, we get GAMMA.”
BETA are produced throughout daily activities when we’re awake, alert, busy, thinking, analyzing, and are associated with learning and executive function.
ALPHA waves are produced when we’re awake but our mind is in a resting state and are associated with being calm and alert. They’re about internal awareness often with closed eyes.
THETA waves are important for Dr. Tarrant’s work with psychic mediums—they’re produced by deep meditation, daydreaming, and are associated with relaxation, young children, increased creativity, stress reduction, restfulness, and contentment.
DELTA waves are associated with healing, and dreamless sleep.
Laura Lynne said that what she loves about Dr. Tarrant’s work is that he can kind of take a snapshot of what parts of her brain are activated when she’s giving a psychic reading.
Their conversation also reveals how there is actually no difference between intuition and psychic ability. They’re the same thing. It’s just that the word ‘psychic’ often comes with certain baggage, where as intuition doesn’t. Both Laura Lynne Jackson and Dr. Tarrant are incredibly enthusiastic about teaching ways for anyone to unlock their own psychic capacities.
While immersed in all of this discussion about intuition and psychic capacities, I happened to also read this from THE GLOBAL SISTERHOOD:
"𝑨𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒎𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒘𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏'𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏.
It has been feared, ignored, and downplayed for centuries because of the power it holds -- but no more.
Through honoring our intuition, we rise as empowered healers, teachers, leaders, guides, and way-showers. For far too long, our world and our cultures have attempted to rely solely on logic, reason, and quantifiable data that can be proven with measurements. While this knowledge is extremely important and holds its own truth, it is only one side of a much larger picture.
Feminine intelligence is not only a way of inner-knowing, but a way of life that honors all emotions, all experiences, and all bodies as sacred teachers and wisdom keepers.
This wisdom is not only accessible to women but to all people — including men.
Humanity is now awakening to the cries of Mother Earth and to the necessary balance that the life-giving feminine force brings.
It is becoming known more and more in the hearts of all humanity that Feminine Intelligence is absolutely necessary for global healing and for our very survival.
Unsustainable systems based on an over-exaltation of the masculine are being humbled and giving way to a movement that honors the earth, the feminine, and all life.
We are now experiencing a revival of Feminine Intelligence, whether or not the powers that be choose to acknowledge it."
Talk about surfing the wave of the Rising of the Divine Feminine!
I find it fascinating how certain men have the humility and courage to listen to women, and to acknowledge and validate the female experience. Perhaps these are the men who are finding ways to measure brainwaves, hence satisfy the desire for more rational, logical, reason-based, and quantifiable data to prove something that has historically been dismissed as “women’s intuition” or “old wives tales,” until now.
And to bring this full circle, I did actually have a reading with a psychic medium who was recommended by two friends. And I was delighted to hear “her connection with the other side” informed her that my writing is coming out at just the right time. That the world needs the gifts that I am now sharing.
And that I need to feel confident in being a strong guide.
Dear Reader, I will continue to cultivate my courage to speak my truth, as I encourage you to also speak your own truth.
We’re living through a time in history that desperately needs our Divine Feminine Intelligence.
May you cultivate the courage to claim your own spirituality in the world.🥰 ✨🌟💖🙏🕊️
